Where we Sing

Most of our singing and music making sessions are on Fridays.

For 2010 sessions are weekly during school terms, unless we make special other arrangements.

Friday Afternoon Sessions

Friday Afternoon Sessions are at the Uniting Church Hall in Mangles Street at 12.30pm until 2.00 and then we have coffee.

Aged Care Sessions

Our aged care sessions are a lot of fun. The audience is part of the event. We give out shakers and other hand instruments and all the words to our songs. Everyone participates as much or as little as they choose. Sometimes they dance! Some people just smile. Everyone has a good time. From 2010 Shoestring Singers have joined with Margaret Duce and friends in their longstanding tradition of aged care entertainment.

VOCAL NOSH

The afternoon Vocal Nosh sessions are about singing in the moment and singing for pleasure. These sessions are based on Fay White's model of community singing that has been taken up by Community Music Victoria. Sometimes we are accompanied but often we sing a cappella. We welcome anyone who wants to sing with us. Audition is not required, nor is the ability to read music or previous experience. Just wanting to sing is enough. Non singers find the sessions are a safe place to start and experienced singers find the a cappella format offers them opportunity to enjoy the full range of their voice. Its a special treat to sing the songs written by our members.

Shoestring Players

Linda Blyth started this Friday morning session in 2007 and it soon was a favourite for everyone who attended. With the marimba, djembes, drum kit, hand instruments, guitars, and heaps of music happening these sessions were a highlight of my week. Always uplifiting. We had great leaders, Jackie, Lucia, Di, JoAnne and Amanda.
